Today was a good day.
We woke early and got around. Well, we being Lori and me. Erin got up a little late, but I had to go get Nate out of bed at 8:56. No wonder I was able to get a lot of typing done this morning.
We went shopping this morning in absolutely beautiful weather. This week is some sort of holy week and as such, vacation for schools and most people. Many booths were set up in the central park with many beautiful craft items. We perused the booths, but we were not out for that kind of shopping. We got some things we needed for the house and some groceries. Then we went to the ATM which was not working because of the high traffic of vacationers. Oh well.
We got the contract signed for our Claro "Triple Play" (phone/cable/internet). Costs less than we expected by a few bucks per month, but that is offset by the length of the contract - we will have to buy out the contract when we leave with an early cancellation fee.
We got to worship with the family tonight. On Wednesdays we meet in family houses. Tonight was at Sister Marta's house. We crammed more than 20 people in her main quarters and many more outside the front door. So here is the guilt trip for the week: The kids raced in their Bibles to be the ones to get to read - along with some of the adults. We had to walk up and down steep roads, slippery from rain and algae, both to get there and to come back. When we left, it was completely dark in a section of town with NO street lights. How many were in attendance where you worshiped tonight? Ok, enough of that. It was great to be there. Brother Marvin leads song with definite gusto, and his son (who taught tonight) has a very comfortable rapport with the group.
On the way back from worship we stopped at Sister Reina's for dinner. She had invited us Monday when she came to collect the banana leaves. I cannot express enough how incredible her tamales are. They were hands down the best tamales I've ever eaten. So good, in fact, I had seconds (not that she would have let me skip seconds if I had wanted to)! She is so generous, as are most of the family here.
Tomorrow promises to be another great day.
