Today was a good day.
And, yes, I do like alliteration.
Today I couldn't believe it, but when I opened my eyes and checked my watch it was late. I had actually slept until almost 7:30! I haven't slept that late in many weeks. It felt good, but for some reason I felt guilty.
We had a big day planned today. We were going to go to the Fernando Llort museum here in La Palma. This is the only picture we have from there:
Notice the sign just above Erin's head. Which explains why we have no more pictures of the museum.
We did some more touristy things after the museum. The building Fernando Llort once worked out of has expanded quite a bit. We visited the store where there are muchas cosas to ooh and ahh over. Then we got to go behind the scenes and see it from rough hewn log:
to finished product:
It was really pretty neat. This actually is part of Nathan's schooling as we are trying to find entertaining and interesting adventures that are also educational. If you didn't follow the link I posted above to Fernando Llort's site, you may not understand why this is educational and how big of an impact Llort had on the culture and commerce, not only in La Palma, but in the country of El Salvador.
We then walked up to the Hotel La Palma where we needed to pay for and pick up a dispenser waiting for us, which Isabel had thoughtfully acquired for us (since we couldn't find one in La Palma). We've never seen it so busy there! As I said in a previous post, this is vacation week for El Salvador and this particular hotel is the best place to stay when on vacation in La Palma.
We got back just ahead of the rain (around 2:00). At this point, I'm not sure what the rest of the family did. I did more preparation for class Sunday and worked more on the plans for an area wide rotating youth rally type event. I am really excited about both. The class will be focusing on what God expects from His men. The youth events will focus on living as a Christian teenager and what that means for daily living. This can only lead to good things happening for God and His church!
Tonight we met at the church building for song and class. Jose is teaching a series on Ephesians. Tonight was capitulo 4, versiculos 14 - 27. He would have gone further (I think) had it not been for the rain hitting the roof SO hard we could not hear him even though he was using the sound system. We could hardly hear ourselves yelling to each other that the rain was too loud to continue. The rain thundered on the roof so loud, Jose finally decided to have Carlitos close with a prayer (that was almost completely drowned out by the torrential deluge of water). Not many people left right away. When you are walking home, you tend to wait for a break in the rain.
Tomorrow we plan to attend the children's program. This is an opportunity to meet some more of the parents and be present when the sponsored children receive their monthly supplies. This will be my first time to be present for such an event. I am looking forward to it. Jose has asked me to help, but he said he would tell me what kind of help tomorrow before they start. Be flexible, right Ralph? We also plan to visit Brother Jorge Rodriquez and his family in Ocotepeque tomorrow.
Tomorrow promises to be another good day.
